And this PAINS ME.
"Then, why the fuck are you doing it?" you might ask.
Or maybe you're asking, "Who the fuck would buy your crap?"
Truthfully, I don't know who would be interested, if anyone. But I have to try, because I truthfully desperately need money.
So let's go back to the first question; the, "Why?" part.
Here's the situation: I'm currently a student. I will be for the next three years, at least. I'm studying full-time, which is to say that come September I'll be back in university all day Monday-Friday, and putting in whatever extra time I can physically manage afterwards. Currently I'm working my ass off on resits. Which will finish a couple of days before uni starts. So this doesn't leave me with much time or energy for a job. "Bitch, stop being so lazy," you might say. "Get off your fat ass and work for your money." Well, yes, I would. If I was actually capable of doing so. As it is, I suffer from Psoriatic Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and a sweet case of depression and anxiety (mostly brought on by the first two). Let me explain in short what these conditions actually do to me:
Psoriatic Arthritis (PA):
- pain and stiffness in and around your joints
- swelling of your fingers or toes (dactylitis), caused by inflammation occurring simultaneously in joints and tendons
- buttock pain, a stiff back or a stiff neck, which is caused by inflammation in your spine (spondylitis)
- pain and swelling in your heels, caused by inflammation where your Achilles tendon attaches to the bone
- pain in other areas where tendons attach to bone (enthesitis), such as your knee, hip bones and chest
Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS):
- lower back or neck pain and stiffness
- pain in your sacroiliac joints (the joints where the base of your spine meets your pelvis, buttocks or the back of your thighs
- tiredness (fatigue).
- pain and swelling in other joints
- tenderness or discomfort around your heels
- swollen fingers or toes
- pain or tightness in your chest
- eye inflammation (painful, bloodshot eyes).
As with any auto-immune condition, these conditions are prone to what is commonly referred to as a "flare-up". A flare-up is when your condition worsens over a period of time. These flare-ups can be triggered by different things, or just spring up your ass when you least expect it, and can least afford it. Seriously, though, my flare-ups are pretty much directly related to my stress and anxiety levels. The more stress I am under, or the more anxiety I have to deal with, the more likely I am to get a flare-up or fall ill. In the long run, these two diseases can also cause bone deformities, and there is no way of actually stopping the diseases, only treating the symptoms.
Depression & Anxiety:
- troubles concentrating or with memory
- disturbed sleep
- tiredness or lack of energy
- feeling irritable
- crying easily
- enhanced sensory state
- expecting the worst
- feeling hopeless or pessimistic
- having low self esteem/feeling worthless
I have also sustained a couple of other conditions from having arthritis. Namely, joint narrowing between my lower vertebrae, which leads to even more pain and stiffness in that area, and bone damage, sometimes referred to as bone loss or osteopenia. Osteopenia is an indication of the onset of osteoporosis. This basically means that my bones are wearing down and getting thinner.
So, that's an overview of my health... With all of these conditions combined, getting out of bed, managing pain, going about the daily motions of getting dressed, getting food, going out, etc. are all really bloody hard to do. This is the reason I ended up leaving 6th Form (which is like college, or the step before going to University) before completing my studies. This is also why I seriously struggle with my studies even now, despite getting all the help that is physically available to me. And lastly, all these reasons listen above are why I can't actually manage studying and working at the same time. I've tried it. It always ends up with me bedridden or visiting the hospital. These reasons are also why I'm in a massive pinch now.
You see, as a student in England, you receive some financial aid from a company called Student Finance. However, the aid that I received from them didn't even cover my rent, so I had to keep borrowing money from family members to get by. But despite not getting money, I kept getting bills. I had to get a new laptop, as my old one broke down. I had to get a new phone, as my old one broke down. I had to pay for travel back home to take care of my mum and my pets when my brothers couldn't do it for me. I had to pay for laundry, and food, and phone bills, and cover the cost of medicines, and then, to top it all off, I got slapped in the face with veterinary bills. Twice.
Throughout my first year of study, I had to:
Essentially, my first attempt at moving out and going at life as an independent and self-sufficient adult failed spectacularly, and landed me in over (at least) £2400 in debt (which is $3691 in USD), which rises every day due to interest rates and charges... Note, however, that this hasn't discouraged me from trying again at some point, but that's not going to happen until I'm certain I'll be able to make do without having to ask for money from my mother all the time, as she has her own bills and debts to cover.
- max out my credit card at £600
- go into my over-draft on my bank account by £800
- borrow somewhere over £1000 from my family (I haven't actually dared to ask just how much I owe them, I just know it's long since gone over £1000.)
- finally, give up my student room and move back home
You might be really confused by now, thinking, "Yeah, well, why the fuck are you telling me your life story?! Get to the fucking point or something..." You are right to do so.
The actual point of this long and laboured post is, I HAVE to pay off my debts. As soon as possible. Since I can't work whilst studying, I'm selling as much of my stuff as I can live without—and that includes all of my art.
I'm hoping that someone who reads this might be interested in a drawing, or at least interested in having a look.
Over the next few days, I'm going to start auctioning some pieces off. Initially, I will try to do this through my mum's ebay account (as I don't have ebay, or a paypal account). I might also try a couple of different methods over this next week, in case anyone comes along with better suggestions, and see what works best. I'll write another post when I've started up the auctions.
IN THE MEAN TIME, if there is something in my gallery that you feel you might like to have, you can send me a bid for any piece in a private message, and we can sort something out. Alternatively, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prices will depend on:
For example, a drawing with a simple character on it, with no background whatsoever, will be a lot cheaper than a drawing with several characters or an intricate background. If a more complex drawing was to have really crinkled or ripped paper, or are drawn on lined paper, text or other doodles on the back of them, or are cut or ripped irregularly, you would obviously be able to get it for less. This is also true of anything drawn on lined paper, or drawings that have text or other doodles on the back of them.
- quality and age of the drawing
- quality of the paper
- cost of packaging & posting
If you've stuck around to read this far, I just want to clarify this much; I am selling the paper drawings, as in, the originals, of anything I have in the FEATURED FOLDER in my gallery (I'll try to keep drawing and adding things as well). You would be the only owner of these pieces, as I've never photocopied anything, nor sold anything as prints. If you find anything in my other folders, that doesn't exist in the featured folder, it's either because I think they're too ugly to sell, or I no longer have the originals.
I WILL ALSO DO COMMISSIONS.
I love doing other people’s OCs, romance stuff and NSFW pictures. I won’t be doing complex backgrounds or full colour.
I will only do drawings of human characters, with simple backgrounds, and only black & white/greyscale or simple/minimal colour.
This is so that I can get as much done as quickly as possible.
PRICES: £5 - £10 + postage.
- Single character, no background - £5
- Single character, simple background - £7
- Two characters, no background - £8
- Two characters, simple background - £10
- Portraits/Busts £5 - £8
And that, folks, is about as much as I have to say at this point in time. If you'd like to help, but can't actually buy anything, I'd really appreciate if you signal boosted this for me and spread the word.
